Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, through the Travelpayouts network and the travel companies it represents — flight and hotel search, transfers, tours and car hire. If you follow one and book something, we are paid a commission by that company. You pay exactly the same price either way; the commission comes out of their margin, not your pocket.
Affiliate links are marked where they appear, and they are tagged sponsored in the page source so search engines can see them for what they are. Ordinary links to museums, ski centres, wineries and tourist boards are not affiliate links and earn us nothing.
The part that matters: money never buys a place on this site. No company has ever paid to be listed, rated higher, or described more warmly, and none can. Where we recommend something we would recommend it with the commission switched off — and where a place is disappointing in winter we say so, affiliate link or not.
What actually gets stored on your device
Three kinds of thing, and only the first happens without asking you:
Strictly necessary. A small amount of local storage that remembers your consent choice and lets the site work offline once you have visited. No consent needed for these, because without them the site cannot function or cannot remember that you said no.
Advertising. Set by our advertising partner and the companies it works with, once you allow it. Used to choose and measure ads, and in some cases to build a profile of you across other sites. These are the ones the consent notice is really about.
Affiliate attribution. When you click an affiliate link you leave this site, and the company you land on records that we sent you — usually with a cookie on their own domain, lasting anywhere from a day to a month depending on the company. That happens on their side, under their privacy policy, and only if you actually click. We set nothing ourselves.
The exact cookies, who sets them and how long they last are listed inside the consent notice, which is the only place that can stay accurate as partners change.
What we collect
Almost nothing. We run no analytics of our own and no tracking pixels of our own, so we cannot tell who you are or which pages you read. The site does carry advertising, and our advertising partner does set cookies once you allow it — that is set out in full below. The only personal data we ever hold is what you type into the contact form. Nothing is sold, ever.
Advertising & cookies
This site is paid for by advertising. Those ads are delivered by a third-party advertising partner, which works with its own list of advertising companies. To choose, deliver and measure what you see, they set cookies and similar identifiers in your browser and receive your IP address, the rough location it implies, your device and browser details, which pages you look at here, and how you interact with the ads. Some of them combine that with data they already hold on you from elsewhere. We do not receive any of it, and we cannot see who you are.
Everything else on the page is still built to leave you alone. We run no analytics of our own. Fonts come from our own server rather than a font network, and the maps and films stay click-to-load — nothing reaches Google or YouTube until you press play, and if you never press play they never learn you were here.
Your consent, and changing it
The first time you visit you are asked before any advertising cookie is set. You can accept everything, refuse everything, or decide purpose by purpose. Refusing does not take the ads away — it means they are picked without profiling you, so they are less relevant and earn us less. That is the honest trade, and you should know it is the one you are making.
You can change your answer at any time, and withdrawing consent is meant to be exactly as easy as giving it. Doing so stops any further processing; it cannot undo what was already collected. Our legal basis for advertising cookies is your consent, under the GDPR and the Greek implementation of the ePrivacy rules. The handful of cookies that simply make the site work are not used for advertising and do not need consent.
Requests about data the advertising companies hold have to go to them rather than to us — they are the ones holding it. Their identities and contact details are listed in the consent notice itself. For anything we hold, which is only what you type into the contact form, write to us. If you think your data has been handled badly, you can complain to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority at dpa.gr.
The contact form
If you write to us, the form passes your name, email, subject and message to Netlify, who host this site and store submissions on our behalf. We use it only to answer you. We keep messages while they are useful and delete them when they are not, and we do not add you to any list because you wrote to us. You can ask us what we hold, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it — just say so and we will.
