Why Heraklion in winter

Crete never shuts, and Heraklion is its beating heart — a real working city with the Palace of Knossos on its doorstep and the mildest winter in Greece.

The rest of Crete is a short drive away: snow on Psiloritis, empty beaches at Matala, and mountain villages where winter means raki, fireplaces and slow, three-hour lunches.

Best winter month
January–March
