Come in January and the same rock is 13°C, the light is low and forensic, and you walk straight up. The Archaeological Museum is close to empty. The taverna that turned you away in August has a table by the fire.
Nothing here is dressed up as an off-season bargain, because it isn't one: this is a working European capital doing what it does all year. The only genuine winter differences are shorter hours at the ancient sites and rain that arrives in short, decisive bursts. Both are easy to plan around, and we'll tell you how below.
